Taree – NSW

taree-small.jpgtaree-c-small.jpgtaree-b-small.jpgtaree-a-small.jpg

Taree is situated on the Manning River and is 317 KM. and 3 hours north of Sydney.

In the early days the Manning River was the main means of transport. The area was first settled in 1831.

The Martin Bridge across the Manning River was opened in 1940 and has a span to allow shipping to pass through. A beautiful part of NSW.

Adelaide and Glenelg

Glengelg is another popular seaside resort for the people of Adelaide. It has been one since the 1800’s. Glenelg is in easy access from Adelaide by an original 1929 Glenelg electric tram, which takes 25 minutes for the trip, a must do for all visitors.

The jetty seen here was first built in 1840, but alas after a storm in 1948, about half of the jetty was washed away. It was rebuilt in 1969.

Adelaide’s founder was Colonel William Light, who surveyed the city in 1837. The statue is called Light’s Vision, as his arm points out over this beautiful city of Adelaide.

Seen here is also a photo that I took on Rememberence Day 11th November 2004 of the Adelaide War Memorial.

Mclaren Vale is 39 KM. south of Adelaide and is one of the best wine growing regions.

It was one of the first areas to be used for vineyards in South Australia.  There are approx 50 wineries in the district. Vines were first planted here in 1838 by the British Settlers. Then since 1940 Italian migrants have arrived and by 1980 the area was known for it’s fame in wine making.

Victor Harbour is 80 KM. south of Adelaide and only a short drive from here to catch the ferry to Kangaroo Island. This horse drawn tram service originally began in 1894 to take passengers across the causeway to Granite Island. It is a favourite holiday destination and is situated on Encounter Gay and over looks the Southern Ocean.

Granite Island is also a popular place for people to see the Fairy Penguins.

The Remarkable Rocks are situated on Kangaroo Island South Australia. One half of this island is a wilderness and there is an abundance of native wild life to be seen here. The island was discovered by the British navigator Matthew Flinders in 1802. It is a 45 minute to two hour ferry trip from the mainland of South Australia depending from whence you depart. A bus will connect with the ferry and comute one into Adelaide, an excellent adventure is to be had on this island and you need at least two days to explore some of its wonders. The above photos of the remarkable Rocks are a photographer’s dream with spectacular formations and colours.

Amber

This is my present dog Amber, she is a red Kelpie. A kelpie is an Australian sheep dog. Alas my Amber does not round up sheep. I found her as a puppy roaming around a caravan park. I asked around and found the owner who lived a few KM away, and as he did not want to keep her and said I could have her, as he was too busy to look after such an agile dog. So now she is mine and we are great mates.
